First name is Mimir and I live in Boston.
Which Tiwal model do you have?
We’ve had a Tiwal 3 small sailboat for two years.
Where do you sail?
We’ve sailed in a couple of lakes, but we mostly sail by the seashore, by Cape Cod. The kids love sailing around in the sort of protected waters, there’s a couple of coves.
What was your experience before Tiwal?
Nothing of that size but we’ve sailed, I guess, similar – Sunfish and those kind of Lasers – but that was when I was a little younger. I was sailing those when I was a teenager.
How do you use your Tiwal?
We also have a 47ft Jeanneau sailboat and so, we like to take the Tiwal with us. We unpack it on the beach wherever we go and then we’re sort of taking turns sailing around back and forth from the shore. You know, just sailing around, that’s our favorite way of using it but, once the school starts, we also bring it back home and then there are some lakes nearby we can go into and extend the sailing season a little bit.
Now the school started, we can’t really go island hopping so much. My daughter sailed it quite a bit, she loves it and she took her cousins out sailing, showing them the sailing so, yeah, they enjoyed it a lot.
How is it going so far?
It’s been great! We got a couple of the upgrades, we got the pads that go around on the railings, made it a little less stressful having it around in the mooring field so I wasn’t bumping into boats. It’s been great, we haven’t had any problems.
What characteristics surprised you?
It’s very sturdy even though it’s all inflatable! I’ve been very impressed that it’s very sturdy and handles great out there.
Once the wind gets higher up, it also handles well – that’s also fun; though we don’t do as much of that sailing but we have done some. We tend to just go on the big boat once the wind picks up a lot.
What is your best memory with your Tiwal?
It was very nice to watch the girls just sailing around in the mooring field and out into the. They have had little experiences where they just noticed that the ferry coming and they get out of the way, that kind of stuff – it was all safe but you know it was nice to see them, enjoying it!
