Tiwal 3R Review: Runar from Norman – OK

My name is Runar and I live in Norman, Oklahoma.

Which Tiwal model do you have?

I have the Tiwal 3R racing sailing dinghy and I’ve had it now since… well about half a year.

Where do you sail?

I live in Oklahoma, close by to a lake so that’s my go-to place. But one of the reasons why I bought it is Oklahoma and Texas and Arkansas, that whole area even Colorado everything is within driving distance from me and I have mapped up at least 40/50 different lakes I would like to go and sail.

What was your experience before Tiwal?

I’m a youth certified sailing instructor. I’m also responsible for the University of Oklahoma sailing team. The Sailing Club here at the lake has a lot of sailing classes during the summer which I participate in and also we have a shared boat program for bigger boats.

Single-handed or double-handed?

I’m actually a member of a sail Club so I’m sailing with other, we sail on the sail club’s boats so typically it is the one when I want to go up either with myself or I have two young adult sons who sometimes join me as well.

How is it going so far?

It’s been going really good. I grew up as a Laser sailor and I still sail Lasers with the club and 420s and other boats and I’m surprised how well the Tiwal is handling itself.

The funniest experience is every boat has to be registered in Oklahoma. So I just grabbed the bag over my shoulder and went into the register office to register the boat. And when I told them that I have a sailboat to register, they asked if we could go outside to look at it and I said “no I have it with me right here”, I got some puzzled looks.

What is your best memory with your Tiwal?

That’s probably when we did a longer sail on the lake with my son, my oldest son this summer and we found an area which is not very approachable because it’s very shallow for a long, extremely shallow area where we were able to sail all the way in and find ourselves a beach and we stayed there for most of the day.

Where would you dream to sail with your Tiwal?

Actually, I’m planning next summer to go up to Breckenridge, Colorado. My wife and I plan to bring the bikes and the lake up there is a really known beautiful sailing lake and I really would like to bring it there this summer.
