My first name is Kyle and I currently live in Central Texas.
Which Tiwal model do you have?
I have the Tiwal 3 small sail boat and I’ve had it for about a year.
Where do you sail?
I’ve only sailed in lakes in Minnesota so far. I’ve been in about five different freshwater lakes.
Single-handed or double-handed?
I’ve done a mixture of both. I’ve had one friend on there and my wife’s been out with me several times. Usually it’s the two of us together.
How is it going so far?
It’s going pretty well. I’m learning as I go but definitely once we get out on the water, it’s a great experience just kind of… I’d noticed a bit on the Sunfish, but just being on the water, moving by nature… Oh it’s just an exhilarating fun feeling.
Which characteristics did surprise you?
I think the size of its sail compared to other smaller boats I’d used. It surprised me. The wind, when it fills it up, it definitely is very powerful. So I’d say that more than anything and then the rigidity of the hull and the frame together, it’s kind of surprising that it feels much more stable than you might think.
What is your best memory with your Tiwal?
I would say just getting it up on a lake near my house in Minnesota. I was able to do it just after work, my wife went at me. We got pretty good at putting it together so I got off work at normal time and we could still sail after work and be home in time for dinner. It’s just a great way to unwind from the day and have our talk.
Where would you dream to sail your Tiwal?
Now that I’m in Texas I definitely want to get it out down to the Gulf of Mexico so that’s on the list but I’m probably a little rusty so before I get down there with the big ships I’m going to practise a little on the lakes around here.
Thank you Kyle!
